The Granny Rocker Story

My brother and his wife were furnishing a new lake house. She had ordered some rocking chairs from Louisiana (her home state), but only one arrived. The other chairs continued to be back ordered for several months.

I had just begun woodworking and mentioned that I thought I could build a rocker. The first one was delivered and everone bragged about it and commented that i should build more. My sister-in-law was to be a grandmother for the first time and I offered to build a rocker wide enough for a grandchild to sit beside her and low enough for her feet to touch the ground. (She claimed to be five feet tall...she didn't make it!)

We kidded her as to what the grandchildren would call her and I suggested "Granny". Therefore the rocker I made for her was named the "Granndy Rocker". I made several rockers for the family, improving on the design several times until the present design was finalized. I started going to craft shows using "Granny Rockers" as the name of my company.
